Eating Veggies

We have been on a wonderful adventure of trying new vegetables lately.  Jack is still trying to decide if he likes vegetables.  He LOVES cereal and oatmeal and can't get enough of it, so we thought that he would love anything we feed him.  Vegetables have been a different story.  We started with sweet potatoes, and Jack didn't love them, but didn't hate them either.  Next we tried squash and he absolutely hated it...pursed lips, scrunched up nose, and screaming followed the 3 bites of squash that actually made it into his mouth.  We moved on to carrots, and Jack has really liked them, although he's not as enthusiastic about eating them as he is about his oatmeal and cereal.  Our next veggie is going to be peas, so we'll see how it goes.  Here are a few pics of our picky little eater....

"Yuck!  What did my mom just put in my mouth?!"

"Please get that spoon away from me!"

"Seriously, mom, you're still trying to make me eat this mush?"

"I think Lucky will enjoy these vegetables more than I do!"

Arboretum Fun!

Last weekend we had a fun family afternoon at the Dallas Arboretum.  We joined the Arboretum this fall and Jack and I have absolutely loved spending time there!  We played with lots of friends there this fall and we're so excited to get back out there now that the weather is warming up.  It was unseasonably warm for Dallas last weekend, and we had a great time at the Arboretum in the nice weather.  Only in Dallas can I do a blog post about our unbelievable freeze at the beginning of February and another about our super warm temperatures at the end of February...no complaints here...hurry up and get here, spring!

Having fun rolling and scooting around

Play Time

As Jack has grown and developed, he has become increasingly interested in "play time."  He has always enjoyed playing on his Baby Einstein play mat, but these days he is getting more mobile and the play mat isn't quite enough for our baby boy...who I'm afraid is going to be a very busy boy!  Jack can army crawl around and he can is quite the little scooter.  He can scoot himself to get to any toy he wants, he loves to roll back and forth from his back to his tummy and tummy to back, but he definitely prefers being on his tummy.  Lately he's been getting on all fours in a crawl position and rocking his body back and forth.  I think that crawling is on the horizon, but I'm hoping it's still a month or two away because I think once he can crawl, he'll be into everything!  Once Jack has mastered a new skill, it's all he wants to do.  Once he figured out how to roll, he couldn't be contained...once he found his feet, he can't keep his toes out of his mouth...once he figured out how to grab what he wants, he is grabbing everything (and subsequently putting it in his mouth).  You get get idea.  Once this kiddo figures out how to crawl, we will have a real mover on our hands over here!

Not only does Jack enjoy playing more and more, but he's showing me that he's an independent little guy.  He's so happy playing by himself and doesn't really prefer to be held all the time.  Sometimes while he's playing with his toys, he looks around for me and smiles and laughs, but he's quite content exploring the world around him without being entertained by someone.  During Jack's play times, I've been doing some "playing" myself...we have an amazing camera (thanks to Gigi and Pops!), and Garrett's been helping me learn how to use it better.  I've started playing around with the camera while Jack plays on the floor and I've gotten some great pics of the little guy....I'm not good at narrowing down, but these are some of my favorites...

Look at those little teeth!  I think there are more on the way...

He loves his little piano that lights up and makes music.  Maybe he'll be musical like his daddy!

Trying to figure out how to crawl...

Just thinking...definitely not posed!

My little angel

Cutest smile ever!

Snow Days in Dallas

Since today is our fifth day of snow in a week, I thought I'd share about our snow days last week!  Last week we had four, yes four, snow days here in Dallas.  Jack and I did not leave the house from Tuesday through Friday.  By the time the sun came out and the snow started melting on Saturday, we were ready to get out!  Even though we got a little stir crazy by the end of it all, we had fun hunkering down and Jack loved having his daddy work from home a little bit to hang out with us during the day.  Here are some pictures of the Griffin family during the record breaking Dallas ice and snow of 2011!

Lucky dragged his bed by the front window, curled up under the curtain, and watched the snow...after four days indoors, this dog was so ready to get some play time outside!

Jack stayed in is pajamas for most of our snow time...we didn't have anywhere to go!

Yummy potato soup...great meal when it's 18 degrees outside!

 One happy camper

Aunt Jessica got her white coat because she's going to school to be a nurse anesthetist....Jack sent her a congratulatory message, but he just wanted to chew on the paper!

Snuggle time on a cold morning

 "Yum!  My toes are delicious!"

Bundled up, ready to go outside in the snow.  Thanks, Audrey, for the cute monkey hat and mittens!

Not sure why my mom is squeezing me so tight!

Thinking about if he likes the snow or not...

Rice Cereal

Since we've been stuck at home for the past four days, we decided to go ahead and try feeding Jack his first taste of rice cereal.  Our pediatrician recommends introducing baby food between five and six months of age, and Jack has passed the five month mark, so why not give it a shot?!  I think that he had more on his face than in his mouth and he really wanted to suck and bite the spoon, but hopefully practice will make perfect and we'll get the hang of it eventually!
